This one is a bit of a tough one/weird one enneagram wise. Sometimes 1w2, sometimes 8w9, sometimes 3w4... Taking a more theoretical approach it could possibly be him just repressing his true self and even lying to himself during all his introspective phases as 3 are just described like the most void type of this matter, while the true driver of his acts is ultimately him wanting to accomplish what's he's biologically programmed to not be able to, just because it is an inaccessible dream.
