Hi, your arguments for 3 are definitely more convincing comparatively to my argument for 7, which is contingent upon portraying him as the scattered extravert he’s occasionally been described as, but there isn’t any real reason why a 3 couldn’t fit into that either. I’ll change my vote to 3w2–I’m not sure about his variants, but it would likely be something with an So in it.

Hello Strawberry,

Bohr's administrative skills and being viewed as a father figure by many junior scientists “a scientific father confessor to the younger men.” - perhaps ENTJ suits him best - his activities are filled with extroverted thinking - organizing and leading - founding his own institute and mentoring others.

"Though he never won, (his father) Christian Bohr was nominated for the Nobel Prize by one colleague in 1907 and by two in 1908, all for his research on the physiology of respiration." - this could produce the 3 strategy - motivation for Niels to fulfill his father's dream of winning the Nobel.

" Bohr came up with the idea to dissolve a number of scientists' Nobel Prize medals in aqua regia to prevent the Germans from confiscating them during the occupation; the gold was precipitated after the war and the Nobel Foundation recast them." - An innovative and systematic approach to preserve the dignity of a group of cohorts, this sounds ENTJ (extroverted thinking, introverted intuition, and some introverted feeling) - down to his expectation that times would change and the medals would be able to be recovered when the world came to its senses.

" In 1921, Niels Bohr founded the Institute of Theoretical Physics at the University of Copenhagen, which later officially became the Niels Bohr Institute. With the rise of the Nazi regime in Germany in 1933, many Jewish intellectuals lost their jobs. Niels Bohr set up the Danish Committee for the Support of Refugee Intellectual Workers the same year. Bohr provided the refugees with financial support and gave them temporary jobs at his Institute before they obtained permanent appointment elsewhere, most often in the United States." Acting as a father figure for his institute and for others in need - consistent with ENTJ.

Although he shows a lot of "feeler" qualities he is quite rational and reserved for a 7. I don't see him as a primary 5, his motivations were not entirely about seeking knowledge and solving problems - he seems to have sought leadership roles on teams and in his institute as a priority.

I like the tritype from heavyheart of 359, but not sure about the 9.

I'll change my vote to 3w2 sp/so ("The Hero, sp 3w2"), ENTJ.

LadyX: I would encourage ticking “function vote” for votes that are justified solely by function-based reasoning without direct reference to using function traits to vote for MBTI (i.e. votes that are determined by function analysis are not the same as votes that are determined by dimensional analysis). There are proponents of functions and dimensions belonging to the same system, but the MBTI is tested for using a method surrounding the dimensional model and there is no reasonable correlation between impressions of the functions and the tested-for dimensions. The reason I’m strict about this is because the table for functions and the table for dimensions calculate the entry’s type very differently, and I think function voters wouldn’t be fond of the averaging method that the MBTI table uses since it dissects votes by their dimensions and averages them out. Actually, I’ve set aside a default voting option in the profile editor so that “function vote” is automatically ticked for you without having to go through the effort of ticking it every time you’d want to vote by your preferred function voting method.

That all said, I see merit in your 3w4 vote, but Bohr seemed to be a notorious procrastinator as a result of examining things thoroughly which gives me two big impressions: he wasn’t result-oriented and prized a genuine, thorough approach (perceiving in MBTI: staying open-ended by examining things in their full context despite “real-world” ramifications), and did not seem to be obviously achievement-focused (not 3). Because that sounds like a stretch as-is, it fits more contextually into a portrait of Bohr as a generalist who was more interested in simply engaging with ideas rather than packaging them for the sake of “image-orientedness” as Threes are usually characterized. But his legacy is somewhat obviously incongruent with that of somebody like obvious Seven Feynman, and I can see it work its way in there. It just doesn’t seem to add up with the Bohr that loved to blabber on and on to his friends and colleagues to a point of annoyance—you would think a Three would show more restraint and awareness in this regard. I might even argue that the ethical bend to his work was centered around a socially-oriented 6 wing.

Also, I’ve read very conflicting accounts of Bohr’s extraversion since my last comment . Some describe him as a notorious extravert and others describe him as people-blind. I’m more partial to the debate-happy outspoken image of him because it turns him really far away from CelebrityTypes’ nonsense INFJ typing but I’m not really sure. 7, 5, or 3 could make sense... but it depends a lot on who he really was.

Achieved prominence as a footballer and as a physicist - winning many prizes and joining the intelligent elite - while maintaining high ethical standards. Sounds like Enneagram 3.

It’s another Jung case I think where people saw “Ni” and “Ti” and so called forth toward INFJ, and I’m sure CelebrityTypes was no help in that department either. It’s also that same thing people do with philosophers where they try to fit them all into different stacks to differentiate their “intellectual styles” or their “thought processes” as if to provide The Functions with an extra layer of insight that spots differences among people working in the same field that MBTI can’t really touch. He’s described as “nice” and was moved away from working on the atomic bomb (wow, morals) but I reaaaally do not see much of a case for F when he’s spent his life—yes, all the way from his early upbringing—indulging in everything that would signify T. I don’t think he could be J just by reading anything about how he handled his intuitive side and I’m not even sure what makes him introverted? I voted INTP because the usual pattern is INFJ -> INTP but he’s only ever been described as extraverted. He honestly may be an ENTP 7?
