strawberry crisis enfp 7 His J/P seems a little weird and I really don't think it can be described any better than "he's a strong perceiver until he becomes a judger," but this would really translate to him being a strong perceiver. It's less like a balance between J and P and more like P with an impulsive J side that comes up when his 8 side is stimulated and takes sudden precedence over his 7 side. You could loosely interpret that as 7w8, but there's really not much 7 about him aside from his resourcefulness and optimism--it's like how 6w7s could appear as 7s if you didn't know too much about them. Gon is just driven by whatever he feels in the moment, and there's no real sense of predecision that he can work toward which doesn't exist to him immediately. I'd argue that perceiving is one of his strongest letters, and stronger than his default feeling preference--he's not very complex, which is why I have trouble imagining him having the foresight to really have a developed J side. I previously called him unadaptable, but it comes from a position of self-centeredness and knowing exactly what he wants when he feels it in the moment, but there's no real direction that he willingly moves in and goes with the flow (leading with a 7 wing) otherwise. 0 2018-09-30 08:43:49pm (post #3405) |

strawberry crisis enfp 7 I really like that you moved it away from him being a core 7--which is an easy mistyping for somebody as sunny and optimistic as him--by mentioning that fixatedness that defines his character but I think 3 is very far off, too. You've described aspects of him that are textbook 8, but misattributed them: his one-track mind, his zero-doubt attitude, and his unawareness of his limits all practically bind an 8 typing to him, especially when you consider that he's absolutely unconcerned with becoming stronger to avoid looking weak but instead being weak and that he has zero care for his image and is instead attuned to the amount of power people have. He's too honest, straightforward, transparent, reactive, unthinking, instinctive, and simple-minded to be a 3. It's just not an "area of personality" that he's ever shown real care for; instead, he's instinctively--not even consciously--concerned about how powerful people are and adjusts himself to be part of the "strong side" to protect the "weak side." His debacle with Kite and Neferpitou should really be an indicator for this, where absolutely nothing mattered to him but knowing that Kite was okay. Look up the 8's defense mechanism--denial--and try to connect it back to Gon's attitude here. He has a strong value system centered around being fair to those who are helpless, and it is--characteristically of 8s--not something that he thinks about when he isn't acting on it. The quote you've picked out is interesting because it isn't very 8 but I don't think that's very characteristic of who he shows himself to be otherwise, where his feeling of inadequacy comes from feeling powerless, as he's admitted before in the Chimera Ant arc ("I never knew how terrible feeling weakness could be!"). You acknowledge that his stubbornness is what defines him, and that stubbornness is very, very 8. 1 2018-09-30 07:33:55pm (post #3401) |
strawberryfields I get how there's an impulse to place Gon as a 7, since he is the optimistic, funloving protagonist type, but 3w2 is a better fit for his core motivations. While enneagram 7 may be in Gon's tritype, I'd say that Gon's ambition far outweighs his curiosity. Most of the time, what drives him is his unwillingness to lose, to the point where he'd rather sacrifice his life than surrender, which lends him to being a 3. He never wants to be seen as weak or incompetent. If you look on his wikia page, the first quote you'll see is "I can't stand being on the losing end forever!!". Gon's stubbornness and one track mind is his defining strength... and weakness. On the other hand, 7s are scattered and unfocused. They want to avoid commitment, for fear that it'll tie them down. Once Gon sets his mind on something, he follows through even if it means his death (Gon vs Pitou). He's an absolute madman. Furthermore, although Gon is incredibly competitive, it's primarily caused by wanting to win and as proof that he's capable. I don't think he's particularly aggressive or seeking of power over others, like an 8 would be, He also doesn't have the emotional barriers of an 8, preferring to be straightforward and honest about whatever he's feeling. Gon easily connects with others, is charismatic, and makes friends wherever he goes. His relationships are important to him and he's usually very emotionally involved. However, he can put emotions aside to achieve a goal aka chimera arc (well, except anger), so 3w2 over 2w3. Example: http://mangaseeonline.us/read-online/Hunter-X-Hunter-chapter-32.html in this chapter Gon tells Kurapika "I guess I craved support and a way to feel worthwhile" (after Gon failed to escape with Hisoka's badge and Hisoka just gave it to him, making him frustrated) and Kurapika responds with "You are anything but inadequate". The whole conversation between them matches up with 3w2 and shows that feeling useful/worthy is a large concern of Gon's. 1 2018-09-30 12:59:08am (post #3390) |
