*~snow~* :( My Case for Type 8: As inconsistent as Anakin's personality may be, there are a few traits that remain very consistent: his desire to protect the people he cares about, and his fear of lacking the strength and control necessary to do that. Anakin was a slave for much of his childhood, literally one of the worst ways someone can be controlled. From this, he developed a deep hatred of slavery and slavers that never left him. This is one thing that leads to his intense desire to protect those who are helpless and gain strength so that he won't be powerless like that again. In Attack of the Clones, his desire to protect others shows itself when he receives visions of his mother's death. And when he fails to save her, his anger explodes, and he kills all of the sand people for revenge. He laments, "I wasn’t strong enough to save you, Mom. I wasn’t strong enough. But I promise I won’t fail again." In Revenge of the Sith, this desire to protect others (and his fear of not being strong enough to) are what ultimately lead to his downfall. After having a vision of Padme dying, he becomes determined to gain control over destiny and save her at any cost. As he believes he wasn't strong enough to save his mother before, he obsesses over becoming stronger and stronger. He believes power will allow him to protect her: "Love won’t save you Padme; only my new powers can." In the end, though, his quest for power and control turns him into the very monster who causes Padme to die. It's the realization that his attempt to control his destiny only solidified it, his quest for power led to his powerlessness, and his desire to protect the person he loved most caused her to die, that ultimately breaks him and turns him into Vader. Alongside these core aspects of type 8, Anakin also displays many other traits that are typical of 8s. He is self-confident, assertive, cocky, arrogant, and impulsive throughout pretty much all of the Star Wars material. In the Clone Wars series, these traits are even more apparent. In the series, he also struggles A LOT with showing vulnerability, and can be very bossy and controlling, especially toward Ahsoka. Despite this, though, he also would do anything to protect her, and the injustices done by the Jedi Council to her contribute a lot to his anger and disillusionment toward them. Also, despite his intense love for Padme, he is somewhat controlling of her (again as a way of ""protecting"" her). His jealousy of other men being with her causes him to become extremely angry and even beat up a guy at one point. 2 2019-03-15 03:30:19pm (post #5621) |
