LVNA This is an interesting entry because I could really see it going in a lot of different ways based upon why someone would involve themselves in BDSM. I'm inclined to agree with Mike's 8w7 vote mostly because of the obvious power dynamics involved and the fact that it's a "body type" with strong physical appetites, but I think there are also legitimate arguments for 4 and possibly even 6 Sx. In an era in which "queerness" is essentially normalized, that term seems to no longer really have much of a transgressional value that uses transgression to find new ways of expressing and exploring oneself. A lot of gay people have historically had that "I am out and I refuse to be shameless and I will explore my identity voraciously because of that in ways that people deem dangerous," but really it seems like even if that's still part of the cultural gay vibe it doesn't really reflect many people's feelings underneath it all. In all honesty I think gay marriage is perhaps one of the most normalizing and anti-queer concepts possible, basically asking people to pander to and normalize their sexuality under the opressive banner of Christianity in the first place. I think the same doesn't apply for BDSM in the current moment though, and involving oneself in it is an act of transgression almost from the beginning so perhaps people getting into it are interested in expressing that sort of shamelessness or the high of going against the grain and exploring a part of themselves society has tried to control in a very particular way. I think for that reason I'd assume it be less 9 and 7 than general nymphomania, which in many cases seems to stem from boredom, a fear of vapidness and a need for some sort of sensual consistency (see Jo). Those would probably be the next types I'd suggest for BDSM too because there may be a tie in some cases to nymphomania, but it seems like it would have to be more likely to be rooted in something 8, 6 or 4. The constant striving for new sexual experiences that would be considered vulgar in the eyes of the bourgeoise also seems to point to that N Mike put up, and I think recklessly going against "the grain" is also maybe a bit anti 9 and 7 because it could be jeapordizing on some level to consistency and to pleasure. Another interesting question to ask is, if the dominant individual is mainly getting off on power in this 8w7 way, what exaclty are most submissive individuals getting off on? It's clearly a complex and case by case issue but there's something to probe there as well I think. 1 2018-09-28 06:38:52pm (post #3367) |
