Emil Cioran would be as much a pessimist as much as Aristotle would be a platonician. there is a sure inspiration in the main goal but a clear derive that impede them to fit in this box. idk about Benatar

tman, i mea, contradictory reasoning that lead to the concept of philosophical pessimism. there is not any similarity between those though outside a feeling that can imerge from this author.

Nietzsche is considered as pessimist but he is not . like it's mentionned in the french page

those pessimism have nothing in common. rationalist think that reason is the mean to access to knowledge. idealists accord a primauty to idea over sense. this category only exist in english. not in french, german. this category does not have any pertinence .

True enough but one could say the same about the rationalists, idealists, post-structuralists or any other "movement". The famous "pessimist" thinkers had enough similarities to be grouped together within the same vague category, no matter how substantially different they were. And yes, did you mean to use retroactive?

I'm not sure if this is what a posteriori means. I've never heard it used in that way. Also, I fail to see anything inhernently self contrdictory about pesmimsm.

in fact pessimism as a philosophical movement simply don't exist. it's an a posteriori reconstruction of contradictory philosophy and contradictory reasoning that lead to pessimism.

Pessimism as a philosophy is not "everything is hopeless so I'm not going to try to change things". Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Leopardi, Kierkegaard, and Pascal all believed in living an active life. Pessimism is the belief that suffering and failure are inevitable and that happiness is fleeting, therefore a sort of struggle against fate is required.

i voted ILI mostly because Schopenhauer is ILI. but any socionics Logical introvert can fit . Plato and Kant(LII) both were very pessimist . Plato's conclusion of the cavern allegory kind of said that humanity is doomed. Kant in critique of the pure reason's preface was very pessimist about the world of though and portrayed it as a battle that never end (metaphor of the queen metaphysics that fall under empirist revolution) while being in the enlightment century. LSI like éric Zemmour or Julius Evola tend to see the world as decadent and both despise the feminisation of society at different period and tend to have reactionnary pessimism. SLI tend to see every politician as corrupt and lack of optimism as well Gerard Depardieu and Michel Onfray both tend to think like that.
